October Deer Hunting Trip

We have just returned our annual October Iowa Hunting trip.

Well we did not run into old "crabclaw" but we did have plenty of action in Iowa.

Day 1

The very first morning Dale and I sat over the area crabclaw has been seen in. I was videoing Dale. We did an intro to the hunt and I turned the camera to the foodplot and right there stood a nice 1 1/2 old 6 pointer with a very nice high rack. He turned and walked right by at 7 yards!! What a way to start. Our friend John saw several bucks and does including a 120" 8 pointer. Dale saw the same buck that he saw in the morning and a different buck crusing the fields after dark.

Day 2

We have 3 Iowa doe tags to fill and the farmer there wants us to fill them, so Dale took a doe on the second evening. The weather was not on our side for this trip, We had a strong SE wind the whole weekend. Most of our stands are not setup for that wind. Because of that John didn't see too much from his stands the last two days.

Day 3

We only had the morning to hunt before we had to leave so Dale and I hunted a stand inside the woods near the bedding area. We had a little problem finding the tree we had trimmed out, so we set up in another tree. We got in late and made some noise setting up, so didn't expect to see anything. But Hey! were in Iowa, and we did have a small buck come in. With all the deer we saw, we know it will be a great early November hunt. It will be very exciting with those bucks cruising for them!! Can't wait!! Updates to follow. Good Hunting.

Here is a Great Place for a Deer Hunt in Texas.

Do you ever go away on Deer hunting trips? I like to get away for a few trips each fall.

Since I live in east central Wisconsin, I have some good hunting spots close to home. We have A lot of small woodlots with a good population of deer in them.

The only problem is that there are many bow hunters and very many gun hunters in Wisconsin. The local deer Don’t get much of a chance to make it past their second birthday. If you want big deer they have to live long Enough to get big.

We like to go to Iowa for a week in November to hunt the rut. The reason we like Iowa is because the state limits The number of deer hunters, which gives the deer a better chance to live longer and get big. The draw back is that You will not get a tag every year because of the drawing. You have to take the good with the bad.< br>

When we go on our hunting trips, a lot of times we will camp. This makes deer camp fun. Where we stay, we can watch deer in the fields, and listen to the pheasants cackle. We cook our own food, and fall asleep watching the latest hunting videos. I would take camping over staying in a motel.

For the Gun season I head to Northern Wisconsin to hunt with my father, he is retired and lives in Vilas County. We enjoy hunting the large tracts of State forests where there is lots of room to roam and the deer are plentiful. I like to still hunt in the snow while toting my 30-06, seeing what’s over the next ridge.
