Our Annual Spring Scouting Trip to Iowa

We have just completed our annual spring scouting trip to our hunting land in Iowa.

There were a few things we wanted to accomplish while there; First was to check out the main farm we hunt. We also wanted to look for shed antlers, replace some mineral licks, check out some new areas to hunt, and we wanted to get together with the landowner who we have become good friends with over the last few years. The first stand we went to was unaccessible due to the 4" of rain they had two days before we got there. I really needed to do a little trimming to give me a better shot to the trail behind me next to the river. The larger bucks tend to stay in the brush away from openings.

We walked across the muddy field towards Randy's stand with a temperature of 30 degrees and a 30 MPH wind, it made me feel as if it were November again. As we neared the stand it became very clear that we wouldn't be able to do all that we wanted on this trip. Randy's stand was under water also. We were able to clear out a area near the river that needed trimming. The deer always seem to travel on this path about 25 yards away from Randy's tree. So we trimmed as best we could.

After scouting the main farm we headed to another property that we hunt. After a another long walk to the woods, we found out that this woods was flooded too. We did get some trimming done to Randy's stand. So when he misses the next booner, he won't have any excuses like "brush being in the way". Looking for sheds was a waste of time also, I walked through knee deep water all along a shelterbelt just to get back to the truck.

We did meet a couple of nice gentlemen who wanted us to check out their land. We do know one thing; that NE Iowa is a great place to hunt and if you are resident and get to hunt it every year, consider yourself blessed.

Check out the Best Deer Mineral on the Market.

AWH Trophy Buck Mineral - This mixture of vitamins, salt, mineral, and special sweetener will give the deer all the nutrients they need. This mineral mixture will supplement the deer when they need it the most while they are growing their antlers. If you want your buck to grow big antlers, give them more minerals then they can get from their daily forage. The heat of the summer months will take its toll on the deer, and I do not want to have anything to keep my bucks from growing the largest rack possible. Try our AWH Trophy Buck Mineral - Our Price $14.99 plus shipping and tax for a 15 LB bucket. Compare to Hunters Specialities Vita-Rack 26™ at $40 per 25 LBs.

Be sure to check your state or local regulations to see if it is legal to place mineral on the ground in your area.
